Yes. We will never charge you anything to use this site.

Anyone in a school community who wants to buy, sell, and trade items and services withn that community

Simply go to your account, click on the 'Edit Profile' tab, and select the 'Change Schools'. The form there will let you search for your school.

If you are sure your school isn't listed, you can ask for it to be added. Where you go to add a school, there is a button to 'Ask for it to be added'. Clicking this will pull up a form to request that it be added.

There is your overall type, which is the "default" applied to new schools. There is also a type for how you are affiliated with your school(s), which as previously stated defaults to your overall type. These types describe how you are associated with your school.

There is also a type for offers, which describes what kind of offer it is.

It should be noted that you can only be labeled as a student, teacher, or faculty member if your e-mail address ends in ".edu". This is a feature that was recommended by our users, and is meant as a security measure.

Yes. You may still have a regular account with Scholar Swap, and may post at your leisure, whether it be business or personal use. The paid advertisements are simply a way to give you frontal exposure to the users.

We only display one local advertisement at a time. The advertisement is chosen randomly from the ones associated with the school, and thus some ads might be shown more than others due to randomness. We chose this method because it is the simplest to implement, with a strong possibility that all ads are shown fairly.

The categories of Offers:

Supplies: General Supplies for school and office.

  • Books, Books for school.
    • Examples: Textbooks, required reading, etc
  • Office, Any Kind of office supply.
    • Examples: Paper, writing utensils, notebooks, printer ink, etc
  • Music, Any Kind of instrument supply or music you are free to sell.
    • Examples: Guitar strings, reeds, guitars, etc.
  • Party, Party equipment, accessories, costumes, etc.
    • Examples: Tables, cups, etc.
  • Sports, Sports equipment, etc.
    • Examples: Bikes, baseballs, frisbees, etc.
  • Gaming, Gaming supplies and merchandise.
    • Examples: Handbooks, figures, dice, maps, playing cards, etc.
  • Misc., Anything else that isn't in the other categories.

People: Actions by people.

  • Rides & Carpooling, Rides to and from places.
    • Examples: Carpooling, ride to the store, etc
  • Services, Miscellaneous non illegal services.
    • Examples: Fixing things, going to get something, etc.
  • Roommates, Find your next roommate!
    • Examples: Roommates, etc.
  • Tutoring, When you really need help on that next exam.
    • Examples: Tutoring, Study buddy, etc
  • Meet-ups, Meet new people and friends here.
    • Examples: Exercise buddy, D&D party members, parties, etc.
  • Employment, Look for an Employee/Job here.
    • Examples: Job at the college, job at the pizza joint, etc.
  • Volunteering, Volunteer opportunities.
    • Examples: Event setup, church functions, charities, etc.
  • Coupons, Coupons from local businesses.
  • Misc., Anything else that isn't in the other categories.

Dorm: Stuff for living in a dorm/ apartment.

  • Furniture, Furniture for a dorm or apartment.
    • Examples: Chairs, sofas, bean bag chairs, desks, etc.
  • Appliances, Appliances for around the dorm or apartment.
    • Examples: Coffee makers, microwaves, etc
  • Clothes, Clothes you would like to get rid of.
    • Examples: Shoes, Pants, dresses, kilts, etc
  • Decorations, Decorations for a dorm room or house.
    • Examples: Posters, lights, plants, etc.
  • Food, Extra food, preferably in good condition. Also includes dishware ane utensils.

Electronics: Any electronics.

  • Phones & Tablets, Phones and Tablets you want to get rid of.

  • Misc., Anything else that isn't in the other categories.

Events: Community event postings.

  • School Event, Events organized by the school.
  • School Club Event, Events organized by a school club.
    • Examples: Club meets, etc.
  • Community Event, Events organized by other community groups.
    • Examples: Fairs, get togethers, etc.

Lost Items: Anything people have lost, either looking for the item or trying to find it's owner.
